ROLE - Writer / Director

An ageing and lonesome father faces the inevitability of letting his maturing son explore his own life, leading to the confrontation of his damaged childhood, and his uncertainty of his role as a father figure.

Son tackles the powerful story of a father who grapples with the inescapable fact that his child must one day grow up. But what if the father isn't ready to face that certainty? This film was my final year project I directed at the University of Gloucestershire. The story was one based on my own dad, who made me realise how grateful a son should be to have a loving father in their life, because he never had that fortune.
The film explores how single father John has strived to give his son, Oli, everything he wished he had, making up for the lack of love he received in his own childhood. Yet, John is met with ignorance and neglect on every turn. Now that Father's Day has arrived, and Oli has chosen to spend it alone, John is reminded of his isolated childhood and the bleak future that lays ahead, uncertain as to whether he has done enough as a father.
